Founded in 2026, the Cool Access Campaign aims to improve accessibility for heat and sun-sensitive people in the UK.
Our mission is to advocate for three things:
1. Increased awareness: A lot of people don’t realise just how many people this affects. Heat and sun sensitivity is not just a niche challenge: it's a massive barrier to public health and access. With UK summers set to get even hotter, the number of people struggling is growing fast, and businesses and services will need to step up their game.
2. Better signposting: We know air conditioning is expensive and tricky to install; we don't expect every business, venue or transport method in the UK to have it. But by signposting on their websites what measures and conditions they do have in place, heat and sun-sensitive people can better decide for themselves how to manage their own access needs.
3. More provision: Managing cooling, shade and ventilation is becoming a huge societal problem and it’s only going to get worse. Where it’s possible, we want organisations, politicians and venues to see what they can do to make their venues even just 1 degree cooler for next year - and not just forget about this until next summer once the cold season hits!
